Despite of the efforts of the government to regulate the airline ticket price, domestic airlines today have submitted a proposal regarding massive hike in the air fares after they were checked by the government for the abrupt rise in ticket costs even during non-peak season.
Sources have reported that airlines submitted their proposals to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), for making a range of fares public for every month. Moreover, it is expected that the cap on many routes could go up to Rs 40,000 for a one way ticket.
As per the proposals, an air passenger travelling economy class may have to shell out Rs. 10,500 for a Delhi-Chandigarh or Chennai-Coimbatore flight and anything up to Rs. 40,000 on the Delhi-Bangalore or Delhi-Kolkata route. The proposal regarding the 300 percent hike in fare has been made by IndiGo, SpiceJet, Jet Airways, JetLite, GoAir and Air India (Domestic).
However, the general travellers can hold their breath for now as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is unlikely to give its nod to the new fare structure proposed.
The Civil Aviation Ministry demanded an explanation from airlines on proposed airfares submitted by them.As per report of the reliable sources; it was told that Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said that there would be no exorbitant rates for passengers travelling by air while responding to the proposal given by airlines.
He further said that DGCA is looking into the matter and assured that the decision will be taken in the favour of ‘Aam Aadmi’ and there will be no exorbitant fares.
