The high airlines fares have come down by 20-25 percent in comparison to last week’s fare as the pressure from the Ministry of Civil Aviation mounted on domestic airlines.
As per report of the official sources, it was told that the mounting pressure by the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) against exorbitant airfares had been a success.
Last week, the lowest last minute Delhi –Mumbai fare which had climbed Rs17000 has been brought down to the range of Rs5,000 to Rs20,000 on economy class ticket, while that on Delhi-Chennai and Delhi-Kolkata stood between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000, the officials said.
However, despite of the lowering of the fares by 20-25 percent the fares are high in comparison to the last year’s airline ticket fares. Sources have reported that the lowest available fares at the same time last year was about Rs 3, 000 for Delhi-Mumbai and Rs 4, 000 for the Delhi-Chennai and Delhi-Kolkata sectors.
The newly appointed head of DGCA E K Bharat Bhushan and his predecessor SNA Zaidi, Civil Aviation secretary, over the last two weeks held deliberations with the airline representative to bring down the fares. DGCA had a formal meeting with officials of the no-frill carriers IndiGo, Spicejet and GoAir, yesterday following a directive asking all carriers to explain the high fares they were charging. They are likely to meet the representative of full service carriers Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher.
The airlines had earlier proposed a price band for tickets based on distance with a maximum price of Rs 24,000-Rs 40,000 a ticket for distance more than 1,400 km.

Finally something happened in favour of the Australian team before the commencement of the ashes series against England as Australian pulled them out from the 7 consecutive defeats streak today on 7th November. The host team thrashed Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the low scoring third ODI of the three match series.
Sri Lanka who had wrapped up their first ever series win in Australia against the world champion at SCG earlier in the week were thrashed by the hosts by 8 wickets with almost 30 overs intact.
It was definitely the day of Mc Kay who took his career best 5 wickets for 33 runs. He fired big names- Dilshan, Jayawardene and Sangakkara and was well supported from the other end by youngster Mitchell Starc who knocked over the heart of the big hitting middle order picking up an impressive figure of 4/27.
Earlier today, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first but unfortunately they were immediately made to regret their decision as they were at one stage reduced to 14 for 3 in just 5th over. None of the batsman could play the role of saviour and Sri Lanka squeezed their way to 115 as Starc wrapped the inning of visitors.
Replying to the low target set by Lankan team, Australia were off to a good start as they raced to 35 runs in just five overs. Despite of losing Watson early, Australia never looked back and Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin brought their team closer to victory. Further Michael Clarke together with Hussey ensured victory for the team without any further hiccups.
The fate of five disqualified independent legislators still remained undecided as the three judge bench of the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the next hearing to November 8.Moreover, the bench also issued notices to speaker K G Bopaiah and other respondents on petitions filed by 5 MLAs who challenged their disqualification from the Assembly.
In their petition, the independents have argued that the anti-defection laws are not applicable to them as they were elected as independents and not as BJP candidates. However, BJP refuting their claims said that the independents, who were inducted into the ministry, had become part of the party.
The notices were issued by a full bench comprising Justices Mohan Shantanagoudar, S Abdul Nazeer and A S Bopanna, before which the case was referred by a division bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar, last month.
Independents Shivaraj S. Tangadagi, Venkataramanappa, P.M. Narendra Swamy, D. Sudhakar and Gulihatti Shekar were disqualified from the assembly by the speaker on October 11.
On September 22, Shekhar was dropped from the ministry while the remaining four independent members were landed in trouble on October 6 after they submitted a joint letter to Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, withdrawing support to the 29-month-old BJP government and expressing lack of confidence in Yeddyurappa.
Last week, the disqualification of 11 rebel BJP MLAs was upheld by the Karnataka High Court. However, the buzz is that they may move the Supreme Court against the verdict.
Well, this is good news for all those mobile consumers who keep moving from one place to another and lose lot of their mobile balance because of roaming tariffs as the Department of Telecom (DoT) panel has come up with the strategy for all the communications industry to consider the whole country as one region and free customers from paying roaming charges when they are travelling within the country.
Presently, the country is divided into 22 circles and the consumers pay roaming charges when they are outside their home circle.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been asked to work out the modalities for this. However, no time frame has been specified for the merger of all the circles into single entity from the licensing perspective.
However, this move of the panel is likely to get criticism from the telecom companies as this fee constitutes up to 10% of the industry’s revenues. All telcos combined garner about Rs 12,000 crore annually from roaming charges.
The panel has also sought that cellular operators be allowed to offer services on mobile phones which would speed up the government’s efforts to ensure that the weaker sections of the society have access to the facilities at affordable costs.
The panel has also called for the national policy which will be framed by TRAI that will to cell sites or telecom towers in all cities and will address issues such as the minimum distance these units must maintain from schools, hospitals and tourist attractions.
With this step, India’s first attempt to regulate the telecoms towers space in the country will be marked.

As every schools and colleges of the country are strict against use of mobiles in the classrooms, the so called Seshadripuram College comes up with an idea thereby allowing students and teachers to use mobile phone which goes against other’s decision.
The system referred as ‘Interactive Platform On Mobile (IPOMO)’, the college officials makes the availability of common type of handsets to the students and teachers for the utilizing the facility. There will be no games or message options in the given handsets and once the given task is performed, the mobile is to be handed over to the college officials.
The new system was used as pilot project for BBM and BCA courses last year which proved to be worth for further extension to other courses gradually.
M Prakash, Principal of the college spoke to the TOI reporter saying “The idea is to use technology in providing quality education, when we started the pilot project, students were curious and attracted to it. Moreover, it’s quicker and copying is not possible in this technology”.
The pattern is a three-hour test with 120 objective questions having four options where the student has to select the right answer. After completing the given questions the students can revise their answers opted and finally click on the submit where the answers get automatically recorded in the server and the marks will be consolidated. For any calculation –oriented questions, the students also have the facility to use the calculators embedded in the handsets for solving.
If a student fails to get his attendance mark for three days continuously, a SMS will be then sent to the parents’ number soon.
