With only 71 days left for the commencement of the Commonwealth Games, Delhi Government’s heart is throbbing with the fear of uncertainty of the completion of the proposed civic infrastructure for the games and players.
Looking at the present status of work accomplished, government is planning to increase the workforce up to 500 persons, drawn from departments other than the PWD, on the job of scrubbing the city clean.
Chief minister Sheila Dixit is concerned over giving finishing touches everywhere. Being alarmed at the slow working pace at some places Dikshit asked the agencies to gain pace and hire more workers. She has given the deadline of 31st Aug to complete all construction.
The CM said all digging should be over by July 31, debris removed by August 10 and construction finished by August 31. September has been reserved for trials, repair and greening.
’Work round the clock’ is the instruction given by Sheila Dixit to all the construction agencies. She reiterated that the work should be completed on deadline.
The government has ratified the required permission from the police to carry on their works during night. Night shift work will help gain the pace as there won’t be any disturbances like traffic in daytime.
The government is in such haste for the completion of Commonwealth project that it has decided to offer a month’s salary as bonus to the PWD engineers on the successful completion of the Games projects.
The extra work force will be paid an allowance on a daily basis,’ Chouhan told IANS.
“The CM has also accentuated the proper street lightening, signages and streetscaping.Final touching, beautification of roads leading to the stadiums and practice venues, lane marking and painting pedestrian ways are also in her prior list,” an official said.
