Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Indian cricket team captain and wicket-keeper batsman got married with his long time childhood friend Sakshi Singh Rawat last night at Bidhauli in Dehradun.

Dhoni and Sakshi hails from Aurangabad and had been school friends at DAV, Shamily in Ranchi. The 28-year-old Indian team captain got married to Sakshi, a 23-year-old hotel management student. The wedding ceremony which was strictly conducted as a private affair was attended only by both family members and their close friends.

The wedding was held in Vishranti Resorts at Bidhauli which is about 25km from main Dehradun, with only 50-60 close relatives attending the function from both the families of the bride and the groom, along with few of Dhoni’s India team-mates.

According to one of the family relative who was present for the ceremony reported that Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, RP Singh, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma from the cricket team had attended the marriage. Owner of Chennai Super Kings and BCCI Secretary N Srinivasan was also present at the function.

Dhoni wore a black ‘sherwani’ while Sakshi was dressed up in ‘churidar-pyjama’for their marriage. The marriage rituals started almost by 8pm when Dhoni came on a horseback along with the groom’s party who walked for around half a kilometer to the bride’s place, located at the same resort premises.

Some family sources said that after the engagement which held recently, the marriage was supposed to be solemnizing in October but due to India’s tight schedule in the next few months, might have prompted the pre-ponement of the ceremony.

The couple is expected to host a reception in Mumbai on July 7, which also happens to be Dhoni’s 29th birthday.
