The newly launched “Vaseline Men Be Prepared” application by facebook promoting company’s whitening lotion for men has stirred a row in India taking it as the racial promotion. This application can retouch your picture removing all dark spots and making you fairer by digitally lightening your profile picture.

The application is mainly targeted at Indians who are obsessed with fairer skin colour. However, people have shown their abhorrence towards this app. Just after the release of this application lots of negative comments flooded the comment section. It could made from this that it has hurt the feeling of Indians who supposedly consider this as the racial discriminating act.

A Facebook user, Erica Naylor, has commented on the page: “Transform your face… by whitening it? Ahh, racism”, Costa Rican designer Manuel Rocha says, “This is so stupid, but the people in India are even more!” Another user of the networking site, Karthik Reddy, has rebuked Kapoor for promoting the product as he is the brand ambassador of this lotion. Some people took this app very seriously and told “These products are making them believe that people with not fairer skin are like handicap and they can’t be successful in their lives. We strongly condemn this ad campaign”. The Vaseline Men page also includes several fashion tips for men, with new ones being added regularly. Pankaj Pariha, the man behind the campaign, claims that the response to the entire Vaseline Men campaign “has been pretty phenomenal”. The application has pretty good number of hits per day.

Intriguingly, facebook has claimed that this application has not been developed by it. However, Vaseline defended itself by saying that it is not the first company to promote its product rather it has different and mesmerizing way of promotion.
