Well, it seems that the police is not lagging behind in the social networking boom as the Facebook account opened by a police station in Kanpur received the first complaint today and FIR has been lodged in relation with that as reported by Police.

It’s the Kohna Police station that became the first of its kind to lodge a complaint through the Facebook profile.

The first complain was made by a Facebook user Tabish Ahmed who complained that he had lost his bag, which contained important business documents, Kohna Station Officer Alok Mani Tripati told PTI.

Tabish along with the complaint also mentioned his telephone number and address.

Sources have reported that the police responded to the information by contacting Ahmad immediately to get additional inputs in the case.

Moreover, Police lodged an FIR in connection to the case and a sub-inspector has been appointed to investigate the matter. Also the police mentioned about all the developments regarding the case through Facebook.

As per report of the sources, to the profile of Kanpur Police station, three police stations- Kohana, Kakadeo and Naubasta have been linked with its Facebook profile.

Moreover, Police is also planning to post photographs of wanted criminals on this page so that they be traced faster. Apart from the events, the page will feature updates on activities of the traffic police and traffic diversions.

The team at Kanpur Police Station, which is about 80 Kms from the capital city Lucknow, believes that the new Facebook account will help them tap into public feedback, which would definitely help them benchmark their way of functioning.
