Primarily the attack was believed to be the Al-Qaeda terror activity against France. However the investigation report state that the attack was a result of political fighting among the French right wing politician and Sarkozy, who was prime member of this wing, played an important role.

In 1994, Edouard Balladur was the Prime Minister and Sarkozy was then the Budget Minister. During that time, Sarkozy set up an illegal company called Heine which was expected to give financial support to the presidential campaign for Balladur. Heine used to pay bribe for overseas arms sales and was also responsible for kickbacks or used to get retro commissions for deals back to France. Through these kickbacks they had earned more than 14.4 million euros, or currently $17.5 million. They had also earned around $950 million by selling 3 submarines to Pakistan. A bribe of around $80 million was also assured to the Pakistani politicians and military personnel in the submarine deal.

However in the President’s election Balladur was defeated by Jacques Chirac and soon the business came to an abrupt end. Around 15% of the bribe remained unpaid to Pakistan. It is suspected that the Karachi bombing was the effect of this unpaid bribe.

Oliver Morice has demanded for Sarkozy’s resignation because he had lied to the state as a whole.
