In the wake of increasing international criticism over New Delhi’s preparedness to hold the Games, Manmohan Singh was left with no option but to step into the checking of the CWG mess. Prime Minister has called Union Sports Minister M S Gill and Union Urban development Minister Jaipal Reddy for the meeting at 5:00 pm on Thursday.

The meeting has been called in the wake of pulling out of many teams due to the limitations from the Games organizers side who failed to provide a hygienic Games village for their accommodations. Apart from the Group of Ministers on the Commonwealth games, Cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar and other top officials will also attend the meeting.

The meeting was planned after the comments from the Games boss Michael Fennel who called the Games village ‘filthy and uninhabitable’ two days ago.

Earlier on Tuesday, CGF chief executive Mike Hooper had expressed disappointment over the ill preparedness of the 2010 Games Village. He hoped the condition at the Village would improve in a couple of days.

Further the collapse of a foot over bridge outside the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, the main venue of the Games on Tuesday and the terrorist attack on two Taiwanese nationals on Sunday has reignited concerns about building safety standards and security concerns.

The record monsoon rains, an outbreak of dengue fever, allegations of corruption have all added to concern of athletes, their families and Games officials.

Embarrassed by the series of these events , Prime minister has called meeting and definitely the ministers have to account for every criticism that the country faced recently.
