The Indian Space Research Organisation or the ISRO has successfully launched the PSLV C15 or the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C15. The 44.4 metre-tall PSLV C15 was launched on Monday, at 9.22am, after a 51-hour countdown from the spaceport in the East Coast in Andhra Pradesh.

PSLV C15 has put 5 satellites into orbit. These five satellites are Cartosat-2B, Alsat-2A, NLS 6.1 AISSAT-1, NLS 6.2 TISAT and STUDSAT. Interestingly, the fifth satellite, STUDSAT has been built jointly by students of 7 Engineering colleges from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

The PSLV C15 launch event was witnessed by Montek Singh Ahuluwalia, the Vice-Chairman, Planning Commission and former ISRO chief Dr K Kasturirangan. Commenting on the successful launch of the rocket and putting five satellites into orbit, Ahluwalia said, “It has been a wonderful experience. The ISRO has made the country proud”.
