Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command Rear Admiral Satyendra Singh Jamwal died when he was at the training establishment of the INS Dronacharya’s small arms firing range. According to a navy spokesperson in New Delhi, while Satyendra Singh was at the training centre, accidental firing occurred at around 10.30 am, claiming the Rear Admiral’s life. The Navy, which has launched an investigation into the Rear Admiral’s death, did not disclose how the firing occurred.
Satyendra Singh Jamwal was an alumnus of Lawrence School at Sanawar, National Defence Academy (NDA), Grechko Naval War College in the then USSR, Defence Services Staff College at Wellington and Army War College at Mhow. He was commissioned in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer on July 1, 1980, and had specialised in anti-submarine warfare (ASW).
Jamwal was appointed as Joint Director of Staff Requirement and Director Naval Operations at the Naval Headquarters. He was also the Executive Officer at Naval Academy in Goa and Instructor at ASW School, Kochi during his training assignments.
The Admiral, who was 51, is survived by wife Geeta Jamwal and a daughter and a son.
