Folks a major headache has been averted which would have brought tension in your daily life. Yes, the petroleum traders have deferred their strike once again. The nationwide indefinite strike has been deferred in the wake of the agreement of the centre to look into the demands of the traders.
The proposed indefinite strike which was planned to hit the nation from Monday for the unfulfilled demands of Federation of All-India Petroleum Traders (FAIPT) including hiking dealers’ commission from 2 per cent to 5 per cent has been postponed.
‘No sale , No purchase’ campaign by the traders was deferred on Saturday after several rounds of talks that went between Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora, who was accompanied by senior ministry officials, and FAIPT functionaries. The talks went in the favour of the FAIPT as the minister assured them to look into the matter.
The petrol dealers contended that they were running into losses as they also had to cater to 25 lakh employees working in pumps. In the early part of the week, the federation had taken a decision to launch a nationwide strike and keep petrol pumps shut indefinitely till the demands were accepted.
Deora while addressing press conference told that the strike has been postponed for three months as this is the tenure which the government has took from the traders to take decision on the issue and their demands.
FAIPT general secretary Ajay Bansal told their demand that petrol and diesel be sold at uniform rates across the country, it was decided that the ministry will strongly take up the matter of rationalising sales tax and VAT with State governments, besides requesting Union Finance Ministry to include petrol and diesel under the GST.
