In a very sad report, South India singer Swarnalatha died today. The death news is still to be confirmed and according to reports, her dead was caused by lung disease. She was 37 when she died on Sunday, September 12, 2010.

Hailing from Palakkad, she has rendered more than 7500 songs in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Urdu, etc. Born to K.C. Cherukutty, a harmonium player and singer, and Kalyani, Swarnalatha was also a dubbing artiste and won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her rendition of the famous song Porale Ponnuthayi from the film Karuththamma. She has sung many songs for Ilayaraja.

She had rendered the famous song Muqqabala from Kaadhalan, Evano Oruvan from Alaipayuthey, Kucchi Kucchi from Bombay, Usilampatti Penkutti from Gentleman, Maya Machindra from Indian, among her innumerable hits.
