The top IT recruiters have seemingly overcome the lull of recession and are back at the engineering colleges recruiting in droves. Although the numbers have not touched the highs of the pre-recession, the steady progression is a positive indicator. A list of top recruiting companies at the engineering institutes during the year 2009-2010 complied by Business Today shows that IT companies were one of the biggest employers during the year.

Microsoft visited the campuses of the elite IITs, NITs and a few good state level colleges and their recruitment increased from 75 last year to close to 100 this time. Wipro hired 2,500 students from engineering colleges in India. The software giant is also conducting off-campus recruitments to reach and hiring graduates from science stream to reach its workplace capacity.

Technology solutions provider Cognizant recruited from 75 engineering colleges and added 21,800 new employees, 60% of which are fresh engineering and science graduates. India’s biggest IT company Tata Consultancy Services made 20, 050 campus offers in the 371 colleges it visited. The software giant plans to recruit 30,000 in the current fiscal, with the company’s HR head explaining that the ratio will be around 60% plus for the fresh graduates and 30% for experienced professionals.

Infosys Technologies, Aricent and the US-based IBM were the other major campus recruiters offering 19,000,  1,000 and 179 campus jobs respectively to the fresh engineering graduates.
