In a report released in 2006, China was the top second country from where spam mails were originating. But as per the latest report released by Sophos, a British security firm, this figure has drastically changed in the last four years.

China now ranks 15th in the top spam mail origination countries list. Shockingly, the top position of the list is now occupied by US with about 13.1 percent spam mails originating from the same.

Internet Society of China has reportedly taken up some new Internet Regulations in order to fight spams and this may be the reason for the huge reduction in the number of spam mails originating from China. In fact, the Chinese government issued the internet spam regulations which came into effect in the March of this year.

A new way to hack mails from a person’s PC has found way through PDF that some hackers have made. This specially designed PDF file helps the hackers to steal confidential and personal data from the infected personal computer.

Adobe files have always been considered safe for storing data. And it is supposed to be the safest method and hence has been used by people for keeping track of their bank accounts and many confidential data. Most of all, with almost all the banks around the globe using this software for transaction reports and bill publishing, the problem is getting serious.

According to Websense Security Labs, a Zbot Trojan virus is spreading rapidly through emails and the security firm has already discovered about 2,200 such mails in India. Zbot (also known as Zeus) is an information stealing virus that remains hidden in a PC (Trojan) collecting confidential data from each infected computer.

It spreads when someone receives a mail having an infected PDF file attached to it. Unknowingly, the PC user opens it and the virus lands on that computer. A click on the file leads to worm entering the system. Once the worm gets into the system, it starts leaking out all the personal and sensitive information to the hackers.

“Do not open any mail with a PDF file attachment that has a file name, Royal_Mail_Delivery_Notice.pdf. When recipients open the PDF, it asks to save the file. The user falsely assumes that the file is just a PDF, and, therefore, safe to store on the local computer. The file, however, is really a virus. The malicious PDF launches the dropped file, taking control of the computer. It was discovered that the latest anti-viruses have an 80% chance of mistaking the file as a harmless one,” said a Websense spokesperson.
